12 of 12: February

February 12th, 2008 Posted in 12 of 12, new york, photography

I’ve been spoiled by this New York winter. Thanks global warming. I forgot that February in New York is supposed to be, you know, cold. This morning was bitterly cold, but a balmy day compared to yesterday when the temperature never made it out of the teens. February. Cold. I should really remember that and not get lost in the days when the mercury rises to heights it really shouldn’t. This is one long preface to address why some of these pictures are out of focus. You try holding your camera steady with wind and snow whipping around your face.

The MTA always making things easy for you, but once you are outside the station… which way is east? West? That’s anyone’s guess.

One of the reason I love New York is the way the sun rises over the buildings. The Grand Canyon has nothing on this sun rise.

At my desk, I like to keep a map of my nearest emergency exits. If my office goes up in flames, I am abandoning ship. Also at my cube, I like to keep pictures of the places I’d rather be and the things I’d rather be doing, namely the Isle of Skye in Scotland and shopping at Busted Tees.

Lunch hour. Out for a few errands. Is it me or does that squirrel look huge?

I know other will disagree, but one of the reason I like New York winters is to see cute dogs in smart sweaters. Of course, this particular sweater puts all the sweaters in my collection to shame. Only in New York.

Did I mention it was freezing and I was out for a walk? I am sometimes not all that bright.

Three guesses where I got my B.F.A. from. At the bookstore to get some NYU related stuff because they haven’t taken enough of my money.

Speaking of NYU, I like being out on campus when classes end. The place is just abuzz with energy and students scurrying to their next classes. I don’t know if I would have felt as home going to university any place else. An ordinary college campus would have been culture shock. Incidentally, the building on the right is the home of the NYU’s College of Arts and Science, but more famously the site of Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. I knew there was a reason I hated being in that place after a certain hour.

On my way home, the snow was coming down hard. We looked like we got over an inch in my neck of the woods.

Two kids enjoying the snow outside their house. I always like staring out the window of the train and seeing something that brings me smile to my face.

Back home. Thanks, MTA. I am here.

The snow was coming down. I do miss a proper Winter, however, I reserve the right to complain about how cold it is.

The bookmarked day with the MTA map is a great idea! I may need to steal that one…

You should make that 6th pic your Facebook profile pic.

As usual, I forgot to do the 12 on 12, even though I always mean to. :(
